Achromatic · quartz + MgF2
Achromatic Waveplate — Air Spaced, 12.7 mm
Tower's air-spaced achromatic waveplate pairs crystal quartz with magnesium fluoride (MgF2). Both materials are birefringent; by matching their opposing dispersion, the change in retardation is minimized as wavelength changes. The result is a waveplate whose performance is nearly independent of wavelength over a range of several hundred nanometers — ideal for tunable lasers or broad spectral widths. Ranges: 465–610, 610–850, 700–1000, and 1200–1650 nm.
